A Decade of Web Design in Oxford
I’ve now been working as a freelance wordpress web designer and developer in Oxford for 10 years.
October 2020 marked the 10th anniversary of the first invoice I raised trading as Hello Design, and I thought it would be interesting to work out some numbers in terms of the web design (and other) projects I’ve worked on in that time.
Despite the world being up-ended in recent times, I’m glad to say that October 2020 proved to be a good month and I was able to launch new websites for a local soft tissue and sports massage therapist, a curtain and blinds designer, an inclusion and leadership consultant and a touring opera company.
Website Design and Development
It’s hard to give an exact number, but I estimate that I have designed and built around 70 websites in the last decade, and provided support and maintenance for many more through work with other design agencies and freelancers.
Domain names and Web Hosting
Over the last 10 years I have hosted around 60 websites and registered/renewed over 100 domain names for clients.
Digital Marketing and Social Media
I’ve been offering email marketing alongside my web design services since I started and estimate that I’ve helped with design/development, copywriting, sending and reporting for about 360 different email campaigns, sent to over 2.5m different people.
I’ve also helped various clients with social media and have helped plan, design and manage about 400 individuals posts.
Branding, Print and Graphic Design
I’ve always tried to offer a complete service to my clients and have designed about 30 logos, 20 or so brochures, about 50 leaflets/flyers and much more besides.
Don’t forget the Admin!
Of course, a lot of freelance life is also taken up with the admin of trying to run a business. Since that first invoice raised 10 years ago, I’ve now raised 970 more, enjoyed 3 stints of home-working around time in offices in Witney and Kidlington (twice), and have drunk an incredible amount of coffee!
